Scenic Olentangy Heritage Corridor Byway Continued

 
Byway Feature

Highbanks Metro Park, centered around the Olentangy River, offers a scenic view of the historic area.  The primary observation deck has been designated as a National Natural Landmark.  Highbanks Metro Park also houses late woodland and Indian earthwork, to include the Muma Mound, Orchard Mound and an early pioneer cemetery.  Bird lovers can visit the Raptor Center to see hawks and owls that have been rescued by the Ohio Wildlife Center. The park is located east of the Olentangy River off of SR 315.

 

 

Points of Interest
  • Olentangy Indian Caverns, located just west of SR 315, offers travelers a first hand look at early frontier life.  Visitors may also try their hand at gem mining or visit the famous Indian City. 
  • There are many historic schoolhouses located along the Olentangy Heritage Scenic Byway to include the Liberty Township District No. 6 Schoolhouse, the District No. 5 Limestone Schoolhouse and  the Liberty School District No. 1 Brick Schoolhouse ("Goodrich School") which was built in 1875.
  • The Historic Orange Road Bridge, built in 1898, is located just east of SR 315 along the byway.
  • Just west of SR 315 byway travelers can view the Bartholomew Victorian House, built in 1875 and the Historic Limestone Residences on Bartholomew Run.  The remains of the Bartholomew Bridge, built in 1876, can be seen on the east side of the Olentangy River.
