  • Steubenville "City of Murals", Here in Steubenville you will find our city's rich history painted on outside walls in larger-than-life proportions. Instead of turning the pages of a book, you need only turn a corner to come face to face with stories of the past. See all twenty-five murals painted in Downtown Steubenville and Hollywood Plaza, including the mural of Steubenville celebrity, Dean Martin.   • Old Fort Steuben:  Originally built in 1787, Fort Steuben opened the door to the Northwest Territory as it protected government surveyors while they laid out the first Seven Ranges. This reconstructed fort is now host to an archeology dig and the annual Fort Steuben Festival. Guided tours available.  www.oldfortsteuben.com   

  • First Federal Land OfficeGet a glimpse of the life of the first settlers in Ohio at the First Federal Land Office, built in 1801, that is a replica of a colonial home. Also located on the grounds is the massive 2 ½ ton bell from the Jefferson County Courthouse.  Located next to Old Fort Steuben at 3rd & Adams Streets.  Call for an appointment.   740-264-4534

  • Historic Mansion Museum:  Tour the collection of local history displayed in a nineteen-room, English Tudor style mansion at the Jefferson County Historical Museum.   • Franciscan University of Steubenville:  Visit a peaceful corner of the campus where the Portiuncula Chapel, a replica of the stone chapel that St. Francis of Assisi rebuilt, is located.  Here you will also find an outdoor creche, Marian Grotto, Tomb of the Unborn Child, and Stations of the Cross.  www.franciscan.edu
