Land of the Cross
Tipped Churches Byway Continued

Byway Feature

St. Augustine Church, located along the byway in MInster, is one of the oldest churches in the area.  The church, built in 1848, had a single tower on the east end and the entrance from what is now the parking lot.  The impressive twin spires were added in 1874.  This ornate structure has undergone many renovations over the years and is considered a highly honored consecrated place of worship.

Points of Interest
  • The Miami-Erie Canal Towpath is a beautiful 3.5 mile hiking trail from St. Marys Memorial Park to Forty Acre Pond just north of St. Marys.
  • While in the Wapakoneta area, be sure to visit the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum  located at I-75 and Exit 111.
  • The First Presbyterian Church, located on West Main Street in Wapakoneta, was built by New England settlers in 1862.  This church sports the Greek Revival motif, a style unlike the various other churches located on the byway.  Another example of unique style would be the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located just south of First Presbyterian.  This building encompasses the rounded arches of the rare Romanesque Revival style.
  • The New Knoxville Historical Museum, located at 107 E. German Street in New Knoxville, offers byway travelers a look at the cultural history of area residents and an extensive look at the vast array of historical sites and monuments.
