Titanic: The
Artifact Exhibition, an internationally acclaimed tribute to the
tragic ocean liner, will make its Columbus, Ohio debut at COSI
from March 12 through Sept. 5, 2005. The 15,000 square-foot
exhibit is the largest version of Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition
to visit Ohio. It features more than 300 artifacts; including some
specific to Ohio, and a light fixture that has never been on
display before. The exhibit will include a stunning full-scale
replica of the grand staircase and a fully conserved 16’ intact
and upright davit used to lower the massive wooden lifeboats –
both of which have never been seen in Ohio. The exhibit will take
guests on a chronological journey through the life of the Titanic,
from the building of the legend to life on board. Visitors will
feel what it was like on the ship when they walk through
authentically recreated first and third class ship rooms, with
furnishings by original manufacturers. Visitors will also be able
to press their palms on an iceberg to experience what the water
felt like the night it sank on its maiden voyage. They’ll also
learn the stories of many who died in the accident.
