State Route 800 - Continuing on the Scenic
Byway north from Barnesville to Hendrysburg is the Dickinson Cattle
Company, at Muskrat Road and SR 800. This is the largest registered
Texas Longhorn, BueLingo and Watusi cattle producer in the nation. This
working ranch is famous for cattle that are sold worldwide. Tours of the
ranch can be arranged from June through August to see the cattle and
view the nearby historic sites. The ranch is located on reclaimed strip
mined land which has been reseeded to grasses that allow excellent
grazing and the man-built lakes abound in the rolling topography. As one
leaves S.R. 800 and travels west on Muskrat road the scenery becomes
reminiscent of ranches of the western United States. Tourists are
invited to ride the purple and white bus through the ranch pastures to
see the cattle up close. Interesting highlights of the ranch and the
history of the area are given by the tour master as the bus courses
through the ranch roads.
